21st Century Learning: What the Education Experts Got Wrong and How Parents Can Get it Right @ Laura's

Tuesday, March 21, 2017 - 6:00pm to 7:00pm

Forrester Research predicts that today’s youngest workers will hold twelve to fifteen jobs in their lifetime. Futurist Thomas Frey predicts that 50% of all jobs (2 billion globally) will cease to exist by the year 2030. And even for the jobs that will still exist, the skill sets needed of those professionals (e.g., doctors, nurses, lawyers, engineers) are likely to evolve and become more dynamic. Many educators acknowledge that change is coming faster than ever, but they have been unable to reform the education system to prepare students for a 21st Century economy. Antonio Buehler will talk about steps parents can take to help ensure their children are prepared for a future we cannot yet envision. This session is most appropriate for public, private or home schooled young people ages 10 and up, and their guardians.

Antonio Buehler founded Abrome to fundamentally change the way the world views education. He wants society to reject the notion that education should be a standardized product in which children are expected to be passive recipients of instruction that is chosen and delivered by adults. Buehler wants learners to be able to direct their own education so they can live rich, fulfilling lives. Buehler earned a B.S. in Systems Engineering from the United States Military Academy, an M.B.A. from Stanford University, and an Ed.M. from Harvard University.
