1) Advantage Testing
- deals in one-on-one specialized test preparation and academic tutoring. Their tutors are masters of the exams and gifted teachers. Their test prep materials, which are constantly being developed and improved upon, are unparalleled. Jay Resh (the director of the Houston and Austin offices) will come in town to speak about how to navigate the SAT/ACT world- choosing between the ACT and SAT, approaches to preparing, basic test taking strategies, and what we can do to help.
2) Kathy Bloch-Swarts- Kathy is an independent high school and college consultant, and an all-around superwoman. Kathy worked as the high school placement director at Trinity Episcopal Middle School before focusing on her independent practice. With years of experience under her belt, she can give parents and students a strong sense of the steps they can take to make their college applications truly stand out, what extra-curriculars and courses to consider, and advice about finding the college best suited for each student.
3) Staying Ahead of the Game
- is an academic coaching company headquartered in Houston, but with services now available in Austin. These professionals offer a unique service, helping students especially those struggling with motivation and/or learning differences develop essential life skills. The coaches specialize in improving organization, time-management, study skills, and interview/communication/social skills.
