Every year we take time to review the year that was, to create a sort of scrapbook including annual statistics, finances, accomplishments, and loads of pictures. It’s a chance to honor the contributions of an amazing assembly of staff members, Board Trustees, volunteers, Friends of the Library, and community members who make donations to help us maintain a high level of service. It’s also a time to look back at all the interactions we had with all of our neighbors, here in the library when you visit, out in the community when we visit you, and online through Facebook and our website.
2018 was the year we launched Free Play, Art Exploration, Sheng Zhen, and Music & Movement. It’s the year we hosted Peter Gray, Tara Westover (via livestream), dozens of music and theater performers, hundreds of storytimes, seven monthly book clubs, and a variety of crafting and mindfulness programs. Our Eanes History Group and our First Friday Genealogy Group both grew as enthusiasm for local history is resurging. We recorded some of our programs, which are now available on our YouTube channel.
We added new digital resources (many eBooks and eMagazines, Consumer Reports, The New York Times, Austin American-Statesman) and began making parts of the Eanes History Collection available online. Our physical collection was kept fresh with the addition of over 11,000 new items and the removal of older items that had declined in interest. We bought most of the 4000 items the community requested.
In 2018, we also spent a lot of time gathering input and planning for the next five years. We are all proud to provide the best library service we can to an amazing community!
