Joseph Hammer is a lifelong bookworm. His fascination led him to explore bookbinding, publishing, the art of writing, and the way books are passed along with notations and sentiments from years past. As an avid lover of both books and art, Joseph uses salvaged books to create art and to make observations on reading, words, handwriting, history, culture, and our past. His mixed media collage work memorializes used books, their creators, and also those who owned them. Each of his pieces is a tribute to repurposing our possessions into new forms. You can find more of Joseph’s art at the Davis Gallery in Austin.
