Welcome to the Austin History Center

This month we will be joined by Nancy Toombs, who has a Bachelor’s degree in History and a Master’s degree in Library Science from the University of Texas. After eight years working part-time at the Austin Public Library, graduating high school, and attending college, she began her professional career at the Austin Public Library as a Branch Library Assistant Manager and then a Children’s Librarian for four years. Nancy “took her retirement in the middle” of her career, taking 15 years to raise two daughters and manage a household. She returned to the Austin Public Library and her professional career in 1998 as an Assistant Branch Manager and then Branch Manager. She came to the Austin History Center in July 2011 as the Head of Public Services, managing the Reading Room, reference services, the general collection, periodicals, and a myriad of duties too numerous to mention.
