Helen Zmud, a lively and outgoing 96-year old, has been volunteering with the library for over ten years. She works upstairs, helping us to process new books and audiobooks. She loves to be busy, and we keep her that way!

But Helen doesn’t drive any more. Bill O’Brien, Chair of the Board of Directors for Drive a Senior Southwest, brings Helen to her volunteer shifts. Drive a Senior’s volunteer network matches seniors in need of a ride to volunteers who are happy to help, often creating enduring friendships in the process. Drivers take seniors to doctor’s appointments, the grocery store, hair appointments, bridge club meetings, library visits, and more. Helen calls Bill her angel.

  • Do you know any seniors who might need a ride to appointments?
  • Do you know any seniors who might like to volunteer at the library, but are stymied by lack of transportation?
  • Do you know any seniors who might like to start a book club, bridge club, or other interest group at the library?
  • Are you recently retired and willing to share a little bit of your good driving years with someone who is past theirs?

Let’s help our seniors stay connected!
