The great work of our libraries is overseen by a five-member elected Board of Trustees, and every year either two or three Board positions come open for election. This year there are two positions open, and anyone who lives in the district and is a registered voter is eligible to apply for a place on the ballot.
The primary duty of the Board is the oversight of finances and policies, as well as advising the Library Director. As Westbank is a Library District and a political subdivision of the State of Texas, the Board works with the Director to ensure that the library maintains compliance with all applicable state and federal legislation.
The work of the Board is generally accomplished during a monthly meeting, scheduled jointly by Board members and usually held at 8:30 in the morning, with occasional special meetings or library events. Fundraising or advocacy work may be necessary at times. You can learn more about requirements and responsibilities here: 2017 Trustee Board election brochure
Application packets are available at either library location. Just ask at the desk! The filing deadline is August 21, 2017.
I am happy to answer any questions!
